If you want to try cooking a lunch with a difference, or simply want to spend time with friends around a fire, this is the experience for you.
There’s nothing like the taste of food cooked on an open fire.
On our Campfire Cooking day, you will prepare and cook three dishes on your self built campfire – with some extra snacks along the way. We’ll guide you through every step, so don’t worry if you’ve never made a fire before, or if you can’t cook beans on toast. You’ll prepare your dishes using fresh and simple ingredients and learn about different ways of building your own fire, before mastering the art of cooking on embers.
Our Campfire Cooking day is an excellent introduction to cooking on an open fire, and a chance to enjoy the tranquility of our woodland surroundings. We’ll be combining elements of prehistoric cooking techniques with modern tips and tricks to help you discover a wide variety of back-to-basics cooking skills. You’ll also participate in a herb talk with nursery owner Billy, who will walk you through the different types, growing conditions and uses of a range of hardy herbs, which you will be able to use in your dishes throughout the day!
Here’s a taste of what kind of dishes you can expect to try:
Charred Asian-style Mackerel
Smoky Garlic and Chilli King Prawns
Garlic and Herb Butter Mushrooms
Slow-cooked Ember Pulled Pork
Spicy Chicken Wings
Charcoal Aubergines, Charred Red Peppers and Crispy Skillet Potatoes
Flamed Peaches with Mascarpone and Basil
Our Campfire Cooking day starts at 10:00 and finishes at around 16:00. Make sure you wear old clothes, because they will get dirty and smoky. So that we can get through everything, the day is run with participants preparing and cooking their food in pairs. Please note that this experience is subject to a minimum of 4 attendees. Take a look at our FAQs for more info.
